Edgerton Explorit Center Stop # 4 pg # 18
A science center with a ton of subjects for any interest. I've seen the sign when passing through Aurora for many years but never inquired into what it was. Happily, the Nebraska Passport again helped me discover a location I otherwise would have never seen.
I sure would have spent hours here as a kid if I could have. I've always been fascinated with many aspects of science but never had any exposure to anything like this. To my knowledge, nothing like this existed 60 years ago.
At this display, you assemble the bones into a human skeleton.
At this wall all the pieces have a magnetic disk that lets you experiment with creating numerous machines. Each piece can be placed anywhere to let you design, for example, a ramp with many changes in how a ball will roll along or examine how the gears interact and change speed.
With this exercise, you can carefully tilt and turn the maze to direct a ball from start to finish. You can time yourself and compete with others for the best time.
Here we have a familiar game of battleship played while directing your pieces using the periodic table of the elements and learning about the elements in the process.
These were just a few of a whole lot more exercises designed around playing games and having fun while learning. Lots of examples of how science plays a part in everyday tasks. In case you think this is just for children, think again. The majority of the displays here are interesting for everyone. I'm quite certain that no matter what you think about science, no one can walk through here without finding something interesting and engaging.
